When they were done and after they cleaned up, we asked if they'd be showing any shorts. They didn't have any shows running since they had just hosted a group from a company in the theater room and it sounded like a lecture was being given about the town. We took our time and we got to spend about 2 hours there and a lot of that was spent talking with the staff. There was not as much to see as I thought there would be but what there was was just fine. There was a lot of old memorabilia to browse that was housed mostly in old cases. They were selling a couple of tee-shirts, hats, key chains and other things but no sweat shirts or polo shirts. We got to speak with the manager who told us that eventually they will get up and running to sell merchandise online. Parking is good, they have their own lot. Very interesting history and very friendly people working there. With the Columbia Theater renovations, it is a larger space than what they previously had and they are now sharing it with the town to showcase the history of the town and surrounding areas. Once we finally got to go in on Tuesday morning, it was nice. There were other people who showed up on Saturday and were waiting in the parking lot confused as to why they were closed, asking if we knew anything. It would have still been nice to have some sort of heads up that they would be closed. They also did not have their phone hooked up yet even though they were open for almost two weeks.
We were told that since it is run mostly by the town, they do not have much control over this. Had we not been able to go back a couple of days later, we would have been upset that they didn't at least put something up on their social media page. We were at least able to go back the following week on a Tuesday and they were open. We waited 45 minutes hoping they were just going to be a bit late that day. The doors were locked, no signs posted to say they were closed and why, no one answered the telephone. Well, we got there at 10 am on a Saturday and it was closed. We realized they had just opened at the new location the week before, took a look at their social media page and saw that they were open and up and running. We were a long way from home and visited here on a Saturday. My first piece of advice is going to be to call this museum before you go, especially if you are coming from out of town.
